Sweet and Spicy Steak Tacos

Sweet and Spicy Steak Tacos

#AD Lately, I have had quite a creative block. I cannot recall the last time I visited a restaurant or met with a chef, which is where most of my creative inspiration comes from. Covid-19 has had such a large impact on everyone’s life. But from everything bad that happens, you have to find the good. I was walking through Walmart and something caught my eye; all the pots and pans were sold out. More people are eating at home! More families are cooking and having family dinners that we all longed for but could not find the time.

When I picked up the McCormick Grill Mates Brown Sugar Bourbon Seasoning, I was not sure what I was going to cook for my family. I knew I had plenty of steaks but how could I take it to the next level. One thing I learned from my days as a Boy Scout was that when you are lost, go back the way you came, and that is exactly what I did. I looked to my Mexican heritage for inspiration and decided to make sweet and spicy steak tacos.

I absolutely love the Chile de árbol salsa I decided to use in this recipe. My mom has been making this since I was a child and always loved the heat that it delivered. I knew with the sweetness from the seasoning and the smokiness from the grill the salsa was going to be perfectly balanced. I whipped up some salsa, seasoned my steaks with some #WalmartGrillMates and got ready for a delicious grilled dinner!

I do not like to skimp on flavor and McCormick’s seasoning really does a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to that. I have been using these seasonings for years and have always enjoyed how easy it is to make the food flavorful without hours of preparation. I seasoned my steaks and got to work!

hope you enjoy this recipe and do not be discouraged if the salsa does not look exactly like mine. Buying tomatillos and chile from different regions of the US is going to give you different flavors so feel free to be creative and make it your own. Remember, all your ingredients can be purchased using Walmart’s Online Grocery shopping option: https://bit.ly/WalmartGrillMates

Recipe:

Taco Preparation

-   Select cut of beef you would like to use. We used T-bone steaks. Season with McCormick Grill Mates Brown Sugar Bourbon Seasoning.

-   Grill steaks to desired internal temperature. We prepared to medium rare. Internal temp of 135-140.

-   Remove steaks from grill and let meat rest. Once steaks have rested for 10 minutes cut into desired size to portion onto tortillas.

-   Warm tortillas on grill.

Red Salsa

-   Roast 3 tomatillos and a handful of Chile de árbol in a cast iron skillet. Cook until warm.

-   Add all ingredients in blender and add two cans of tomato sauce. Season with salt and pepper and blend. More pepper will enhance the taste.

Preparation

Add steaks to tortillas and add red salsa and garnish with cilantro.
